The regulations stablish to sail in Spanish waters its mandatory to have a public liability insurance. The minimum coverages of this insurance come strictly established and it is also mandatory for foreign origin boats. In nautical terms, damage insurance is not mandatory but it is advisable.

What is included in the mandatory insurance?
It is a public liability insurance that protects the third party of the possible damage that we could cause with the insured watercraft.
However, the public liability insurance is only effective when the watercraft is in the water, it is not effective when your watercraft is in the dry dock.
Can I sail without the public liability insurance?
The navigation without the public liability insurance is sanctioned. In fact, it is usually a required by seaports to let you use the docks.
In case of an accident, if you don’t have the insurance you will be sanctioned. The owner and the captain will have full responsibility for the damage and (in the worst case) the watercraft will be a warranty for the payment.
